The Eco-heroes Promote Earth Week

Hi everyone,

What a week it’s been, with Earth Week (and specifically Earth Day on April 22) and then World Book Day April 23 right in the middle! The Save Our World team were super busy selling our books at eco markets and introducing the Eco-heroes to a host of new schools!

Kicking off Earth Week this year, we were delighted to be back at Origin market at Sustainable City on Saturday 20th. The Origin team had a host of fun activities and green initiatives for market visitors all in celebration of Earth Week. It has been lovely to be part of this new and forward-thinking community. First school day of the week saw us invited back to Kings School Al Barsha, where we expanded on our environmental messages in our books. The school was particularly interested in how we can all Make a Difference through reading books – a perfect pairing between their Earth Week and World Book Day initiatives.

Our second school visit was on Earth Day, Monday April 22. It was our first visit to Safa British School, and we were amused and pleasantly surprised to be met by Polar bears, tigers, elephants and a host of other wonderful animal-costume clad staff and children, all raising awareness of endangered animals as part of their Earth Day celebrations! We were extremely impressed with the levels of engagement and knowledge at the school on Climate Change, wildlife protection and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The staff are to be commended for their great efforts in embedding the UN SDGs across the entire curriculum. Well done!

We visited Kings’ Dubai on Tuesday to participate in their World Book Day festivities. We had a wonderful time introducing the year 4 students to the Eco-heroes. Colette read to the children and Leona did some interactive illustrations. We truly believe in the power of books and it was lovely to see some other authors on campus that day too. Not content with three schools in one week, we arrived at Raffles World Academy on Wednesday on the back of the Parent’s Association’s very successful Earth Day Eco-market. We were delighted to have another opportunity to sell our books and bring the Eco-heroes to a new school.

Finally, Colette rounded off Earth Week with a presentation in partnership with Goumbook to the Drop It Youth ambassadors here in Dubai. It’s an inspiration to see how committed and passionate so many young people are about tackling single use plastics and working to find solutions to the environmental challenges we all face. We look forward to more engagement and collaboration with these amazing organizations.

Right, what next? Oh yes, we’re off to the Abu Dhabi Book Fair. No resting yet….well we are trying to save the world after all!

Bye for now!
