JESS Jumeirah – Book Pilot

Hi everyone,

Our second pilot reading session took place recently at another outstanding school – JESS Jumeirah. Again, we were a little apprehensive having our work appraised by some very bright and articulate JESS school children! But, fear not, we received very positive comments overall, along with some very constructive feedback.

The book was read by a mix of girls and boys, from years 2, 3, 4 and 5. They liked the story and illustrations and commented on how they could relate to the characters. Mr Rees, who led the session, said they laughed while reading the book (yay!) and both he and the children liked the message it conveyed. He commented that the content of the book was relevant to aspects of their Social Studies curriculum. The group also checked out our website and were overwhelmingly positive – it’s fun and easy to browse plus the illustrations looked great!

Constructive feedback pointed to some grammar and punctuation errors (!) and also suitable wording in a couple of places. You’ll be pleased to know we have already made the corrections. Great suggestions from the session were for more fun facts, QR codes linking to the website and relevant video clips (our You Tube channel is coming very soon). We also improved the wording in the Class Discussions section in the back of the book and will be giving more information on our website on how to make schools more sustainable. The children have even started writing a letter to convince people to recycle more. What a fabulous group of kids!

JESS Jumeirah has a very active Green Team and the school is constantly looking for ways to be more sustainable. We were very impressed with the Eco culture that is already thriving here.

A huge thank you to all the JESS Jumeirah children who participated, to Mr Rees, and to headteacher Mr Firth, for such wonderful support and feedback.

Our final feedback session is with Nord Anglia School, Dubai. Let’s hope we get 3/3 positive pilot sessions.

Bye for now!

The Save Our World Team.
